ANNOUNCEMENTS

· M. Clark announced that scholarships have been donated for Undergraduate Studies’ Foster Youth Program.

L. Fernandez added that CSUSB will soon be receiving an earmark for “Youths at Risk” in the amount of approximately $400,000. Deans should share this with their chairs and send the names of individuals who might be interested in participating on the team that will put together a program.

· F. Jandt distributed the schedule of events at PDC for Spring.

· R. Santiago distributed a schedule of “Clicker Vendor” demonstrations. She also distributed a draft of an “Accessible Syllabus Template”, to be shared with faculty. R. Santiago will post the template on the web. She also commented that Katie Rough can come to any faculty meetings for training/demonstrations if needed.

· J. Zorn announced that the WASC report is due March 1. She will send the latest version out for comment, then bring it to the next AAC meeting for approval.

· D. Chen announced that the English “stretch class” will be on the agenda of the next Faculty Senate meeting and invited anyone interested to attend.

· S. Freund said that the new campus webpage will be unveiled on 1/14. Also, there is a storage problem with e-mail on the campus that will soon be brought to Administrative Council. L. Fernandez requested that deans share with their chairs and other staff the importance of emptying and purging their trash. P. Arlin suggested that a “cheat sheet” be created guiding employees to use the minimal amount of space on the servers.

CURRICULAR ITEMS J. Zorn

All items were approved.

STATUS OF GRADUATE ADMISSIONS S. Kamusikiri

The transition of moving graduate admissions from Admissions and Records to Graduate Studies began November 1. The goal is to complete the transition by September 2008. Currently, Graduate Studies has been able to improve the flow of files between Admissions and Records and graduate coordinators. GS staff will now be training in order to be able to take on more and more of the process.

OPEN UNIVERSITY REGISTRATION ON CMS/BLACKBOARD J. Joshee

There is an issue with Open University students that needs to be addressed. Open University students cannot register and therefore are not in the CMS system until after the first week of classes. The impact of this is that they do not have access to Blackboard for that first week and then fall behind. J. Joshee asked AAC that these students be allowed to register on the first day of classes.

Deans are asked to check with their chairs to see if it’s an issue to allow Open University students to register on the first day of classes and bring back the information to the next AAC meeting.

VETERAN AFFAIRS EDUCATIONAL NEEDS J. Joshee

J. Joshee distributed the results of a survey taken of veterans at March ARB that showed a definite interest in degree activity among them. Deans are asked to share with chairs the results of the survey and see if there is any interest in putting together a small group to analyze whether CSUSB would like to provide classes to the cohort.

OLD BUSINESS L. Fernandez

· L. Fernandez distributed the job posting for the Associate Provost for Research position so that AAC members can bring the opening to the attention of on-campus colleagues.

· This year, 4 MPPs are under review, but three of the four committees still do not have all of their faculty representatives. Deans will be contacted to help however they can to find representatives for these committees. Reviews must be complete by June 30.

· The CSU guidance on Visas for Foreign Faculty was distributed. Colleges can no longer pay for attorney’s fees or other visa fees (with the exception of the Fraud Prevention and Detection Fee).

· The President has requested that all units provide longitudinal and cross-sectional measures “that we would use to show we’re doing a good job.” Each unit needs to provide its own goals and objectives along with appropriate measures to L. Fernandez by January 22. This will be an agenda item at the next AAC meeting.

· A list of dashboard indicators was distributed. AAC members should check off those that are important and add any that seem to be missing and return them to Laurel by January 11.

· The budget picture for next year is not looking good. We will know more by the end of this week.

· Sherman Indian School is interested in encouraging students to continue on to college through something like a High School/University cooperative providing courses on site for college credit in three basic areas: Spanish, English, and Algebra. Deans need to work with their chairs to try to identify part-time faculty who would be interested in providing these on-site courses.

· Anyone who has a budget needs to provide the Provost with a report on how much they expect to roll over at the end of the year. This applies to trust funds as well. Due January 18.
