SUGGESTED DEPARTMENT FMI RECOMMENDATION STRUCTURES

1.       Department FMI Committee with Department Chair ex officio.
The Department FMI Committee shall consist of no less than two faculty unit members plus the department chair (ex officio voting) and may include up to all faculty unit members in the department. If the committee size is less than all members of the department, the committee members (except for the department chair) shall be elected by a secret ballot of all faculty unit employees in the department. The department chair shall be responsible for the election (if one is needed) and for notifying the dean concerning the department decision regarding the size of the Department FMI Committee and the committee membership. Committee members shall be elected for one-year terms at the beginning of each academic year. If there are insufficient eligible faculty unit employees available to comprise a department FMI committee, the department may elect individuals who have indicated in writing a willingness to serve from other appropriate departments or administrative units. Although an FMI Committee member shall not participate in the evaluation of her/his AAR, she/he shall be eligible to serve on the Department FMI Committee for the consideration of all other candidates.
2.       Department FMI Committee.
This structure shall be the same as the preceding alternative except that the department chair shall compete for elected positions on the Department FMI Committee like any other faculty unit employee in the department.
3.       FMI Review Delegated to the Department Chair.
The department may assign the responsibility of making FMI recommendations to the department chair; however, provision must be made for the fact that the department chair shall not participate in the review of her/his own file by creating a committee and/or designee to review the chair's file.
4.       FMI Review Delegated to the Department Chair with a Department FMI
          Committee Advisory to the Chair.
