POSSIBLE ALTERNATIVES FOR
RELATING MERIT LEVELS TO FMI RECOMMENDED AMOUNTS

Attachment 4
1.       Proportion of Department FMI Pool Method. This method allocates the Department FMI pool in proportion to rating level and timebase.
    1.1
For each faculty unit employee in the department, multiply the rating from Section 10 times that person's time base. For full-time faculty, the time base is 1.
    1.2
Total the results from Step 1.1 for all recommended faculty unit employees in the department.
    1.3
Multiply the result from Step 1.1 for each recommended faculty unit employee by the amount of the Department FMI pool and divide by the total from Step 1.2. This is the dollar amount for that faculty unit employee's FMI recommendation.
    1.4
Divide the dollar amount of the faculty unit employee's FMI recommendation (Step 1.3) by that person's annual salary base and multiply the result by 100. This is the percentage amount for that faculty unit employee's FMI recommendation. This percentage is added to the faculty unit employee's base salary rate. In doing so, the FMI percentage is additive (not compounded) with GSI, promotion, or SSI percentages also added to base salary rate. The actual amount of FMI dollars received is determined by the faculty unit employee's base salary rate and time base throughout the year in which the FMI is paid.
2.       Adjusted Proportion of Department FMI Pool Method. This method allocates the Department FMI pool in proportion to an adjusted rating level and time base.
    2.1
Convert the rating from Section 10 to an adjusted rating using the following conversion table:

3.       Other Methods. Departments are free to develop their own methods for relating merit levels to FMI recommended amounts.
