Preferred candidates will be expected to meet the traditional requirements of excellence in teaching, active scholarly and professional work, and service to the University and community. In addition, new faculty are encouraged to develop and participate in activities that support the University's strategic plan. This plan emphasizes three areas: a) alternative modes of instructional delivery to include off-campus and distance learning; b) the learning process, i.e., innovative teaching strategies and/or research on how students learn and apply knowledge over an extended period of time; and c) partnership with the community to enhance social, economic, and cultural conditions.


 

COLLEGE OF ARTS AND LETTERS 

Department of Art (one position)

Assistant Professor.  Art Education. Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Art Education with university teaching (beyond graduate assistant); K-12 art teaching experience (including some secondary in public schools); studio art background and record of successful research/creativity activities required. The Department seeks an energetic, committed teacher and scholar with demonstrated knowledge in current art education curriculum including theory, technology, and practice, as well as visual culture and diversity/multicultural issues. Ability to teach art education majors in a studio-orientated department and elementary methods to non-majors. Experience with art education partnering, community outreach programs, low-performance or urban school programs, and/or museum education is desired. A proposed M.A. art education program is projected to begin Fall, 2008 with graduate teaching and course development opportunities

Department of Communication Studies
(three positions)

Assistant or Associate Professor. Public Relations; Organizational Communication; Conflict/Dispute Resolution. A completed Ph.D. is Communication is required. Candidates will conduct research, engage in service activities and teach undergraduate and graduate courses. Evidence of teaching excellence and scholarship/creativity activity is required. The Department is seeking candidates who appreciate the place of their specialization in the broader study of communication and who can apply their perspective in a multicultural context.

Department of English
(up to five positions)

Assistant Professor.  A terminal degree is required at the time of appointment. The primary areas are: (1) African American Literature, (2) 19th and/or 20th-century American literature, (3) fiction writing, and (4) rhetoric/composition studies. Secondary areas are Asian American literature and English education. Candidates should specialize in one of the primary areas; disciplinary crossover to any other areas – both primary and secondary – is a plus. Department of World Languages and Literatures (one position)

Assistant Professor.  Arabic Languages & Cultures. Ph.D. in Arabic language or related field required. Native or near native proficiency in Arabic is required. The department is looking for energetic and enterprising candidates who will contribute to the growth of the Arabic Program. Experience in writing curriculum and in seeking grant funding highly desirable. Knowledge of ACTFL Standards, OPI Training and assessment also desirable. Experience in student-centered teaching and the ability to relate well to a diverse, multi-ethic student body is essential.

COLLEGE OF BUSSINES AND PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION

Department of Accounting and Finance (three positions)

Rank is open. Accounting. . Ph.D. in accounting or academically qualified candidates in accounting according to AACSB standards is required at the time of appointment. Candidates must display potential for excellence in research and service, and evidence of quality teaching. Industry experience and CPA a plus. All areas of accounting are considered, but preference will be given to candidates with teaching and research experience in the following areas: financial accounting, governmental accounting, and auditing.

Rank is open. Real Estate. Ph.D. in real estate or finance, or academically qualified in finance or real estate accounting according to AACSB standards, is required at the time of appointment. Candidates must display potential for excellence in research and service, and evidence of quality teaching. The position provides excellent opportunity to the successful candidate to closely interact with professional from the vibrant real estate industry in the Inland Empire. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching and research experience in real estate areas such as real estate appraisal, real estate finance, real estate practice, or real estate principles.

Department of Information and Decision Sciences (one position)

Rank Open with Associate or Professor preferred. Director of the William & Barbara Leonard University Transportation Center. Earned doctorate with commensurate experience in transportation or a related field. Preferred candidates have demonstrated teaching excellence, and show evidence of publication record or strong development of a stream of research in transportation or logistics. The Director oversees the activities of the William & Barbara Leonard University Transportation Center, including the Center’s research program, for the duration of three years. Candidates should have experience in a program related to transportation or logistics and familiarity with managing fiscal and personnel resources, program evaluation, and implementation. It is expected that the person filling this position will teach transportation and logistics and have a viable research program related to transportation and logistics. (Candidates without a research doctorate but with extensive relevant executive experience and a Master’s Degree will also be considered to a position in the Management Personnel Plan without faculty status.)

Department of Management (one position)

Rank is open with Assistant or Associate Professor preferred. Entrepreneurship. Ph.D. in entrepreneurship or closely related field of business is required. Candidate should be able to teach entrepreneurship at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as general management. It is expected that the person filling this position will teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and have a viable research program related to entrepreneurship. Involvement in the advising of majors in the department and serving on college and university-wide committees is also expected. Candidates must have demonstrated teaching excellence, and evidence of publication record or strong development of a stream of research.

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION

Department of Educational Leadership and Curriculum (three positions)

Rank open. Educational Leadership/Administration. Doctorate in Educational Leadership or closely aligned field is required. Experience in teaching in a doctoral program including advising and serving on dissertation committees. Scholarly record of academic research. Demonstrated knowledge and/or interest in at least two of the following: school finance, law institutional policy, and ethics & social justice. Experience in working collaboratively with local school districts and community colleges and experience as a public school teacher and administrator are preferred. Ability to work with web-based courses and distance education delivery systems also preferred.

Rank open. Educational Leadership/Administration. Doctorate in Educational Leadership or closely aligned field is required. Demonstrated knowledge and/or interest in at least two of the following: school finance, law institutional policy, and ethics & social justice. Developed research agenda with one of these areas. Willingness to teach in both the administrative services credential program as well as the MA program. Experience as a public school teacher and school administrator is preferred. Previous experience as Department Chair or College Administrator desired. Successful experience teaching in higher education. Experience as a teacher and school administrator in the public schools desired. Scholarly record of academic research. Experience in working with accreditation agencies and credential commissions preferred. Experience in partnering with school districts to develop off-campus sites preferred. Ability to communicate effective with an ethnically, linguistically and culturally diverse campus community is preferred. Work with doctoral students highly desirable.

Department of Education Psychology and Counseling (two positions)

Rank is open. Rehabilitation Counseling generalist. Doctorate in Rehabilitation Counseling, Rehabilitation Psychology or a closely related field. Potential for program and/or departmental leadership. Experience in grant writing or grant development. Seeking a candidate with (1) experience and knowledge of all areas of rehabilitation counseling practice; (2) strong rehabilitation counseling skills and collaboration experience; (3) evidence of the capacity to maintain a productive program of research and record of teaching effectiveness. Preferred candidates will (a) possess a CRC; (b) exhibit openness to innovative approaches; (c) possess a sensitivity to diversity; (d) teach graduate students in a CORE accredited program; (e) maintain an established line of inquiry and scholarly productivity; (f) have background with substance abuse and/or psychiatric rehabilitation treatment.

Rank is open. Special Education. Doctorate in special education or related field required at the time of appointment. Experience with mild/moderate and other special education populations including adaptive equipment, assessment, classroom teaching, IEP/IFSP writing, curriculum modification, inclusion, special education law, and applicable interventions. Preferred skills include assessment and experience with moderate/severe populations or early childhood education. Experience in higher education teaching and additional experience with assessment and a mild/moderate credential is desired. Preferred candidates with exhibit: 1) familiarity with innovative approaches to special education interventions, assessment, adaptations, curriculum modification, and public law, 2) sensitivity to diversity and multiculturalism and, 3) evidence of scholarly activity and publication potential.

COLLEGE OF NATURAL SCIENCES

Department of Kinesiology (one position)

Assistant Professor.  Pedagogical Kinesiology. Doctorate in Kinesiology/Physical Education with a specialization in Pedagogical Kinesiology or related field is required. A documented commitment to excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate level is expected. Knowledge of research on effective teaching behaviors is also expected. College level teaching experience is preferred. The successful candidate will teach in Pedagogical Kinesiology and correlate areas (e.g., History and Philosophy, Lifetime Fitness, Motor Development, Motor Control, Biomechanics, Measurement and Evaluation, etc.) Additionally, the candidate will teach professional activity courses. Scholarly activities are expected. An ability to develop a profile of extramural funding is desirable. The candidate also will advise students and serve on department, college, and university committees.

Department of Nursing (three positions)

Assistant or Associate Professor. Ability to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels with preference for the following areas of clinical expertise: Community/Public Health, Maternal/Child Health, Adult Health Medical/Surgical, and Psychiatric/Mental Health. Secondary areas include: Research, Health Policy, Bio-Statistics, Instruction/Teaching, and Informatics. Experiences in simulation learning, distance education and demonstrated leadership in academic settings are a plus. Candidates must show outstanding research and teaching experience or potential. A history of scholarly publications, grant writing and federal grant funded research and/or projects is desirable. The Department is seeking candidates who hold advance certification in their specialty, would like to work in a shared governance-collaborative environment, are interested in the development of our expanding programs and who can apply their expertise in multicultural communities. A Doctorate in Nursing or a related field in progress is strongly preferred.

COLLEGE OF SOCIAL AND BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES

Department of Criminal Justice (one position)

FILLED Assistant or Associate Professor. Corrections. A doctorate in Criminal Justice or a related criminal justice field is required. Applicants at the associate rank are required to show: demonstrated research experience in fields associated with criminal justice; demonstrated service experience through interaction with criminal justice agencies in a research or program evaluation capacity; involvement with professional criminal justice organizations; and, evidence of teaching effectiveness with a diverse student body at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Applicants at the assistant rank must show: a strong background or training in statistics and research methods, involvement in criminal justice research and evident of teaching effectiveness with a diverse study body at the graduate and undergraduate levels. Preference will be given to applicants with an established publication record.

Department of Geography and Environmental Studies (one position)

Assistant Professor.  Human Geographer with GIS Skills. Ph.D. in Geography or Environmental Studies is required. We seek a human geographer with some proficiency in GIS, and, ideally, transportation; the candidate would need to have an interest in teaching and research. A successful candidate must be able to develop and teach courses related to his/her disciplinary specialty and at least introductory level GIS, with a desire to advance his/her GIS skills. In addition, the ability to teach introductory geography courses that fulfill general education requirements on campus is expected. The applicant should demonstrate an ability to work with undergraduate students and a willingness to engage them in practical research.

Department of Psychology (two positions)

Assistant Professor.  Behavioral or Human Neuroscience. A Ph.D. in Psychology or related filed is required at the time of appointment. The successful candidate will demonstrate primary expertise in psychophysiology. Subdisciplines within the area of psychophysiology could include, but are not limited to behavioral medicine, cognitive neuroscience, or affective neuroscience. Candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching, and will be responsible for developing undergraduate and graduate courses in their specialization. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research program and apply for extramural funding. An important component of this position will be the research mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students.

Assistant Professor.  Human Development/Family Studies. A Ph.D. in Human Development, Family Studies or related field is required at the time of appointment. The successful candidate will demonstrate primary expertise in family studies with a secondary focus in any of the following areas: parenting, intergenerational parenting issues, and/or family and culture. Candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching, and will be responsible for developing undergraduate and graduate courses in their specialization, particularly pertaining to parenting and family relations, multicultural child development, and intergenerational aspects of human development. In addition, candidates are expected to maintain an active program of research in their specialty area and supervise undergraduate and graduate research. Candidates will have the opportunity to affiliate with the Institute of Child Development and Family Relations (ICDFR). The ICDFR, houses in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, is dedicated to promoting the optimal development of children and their families through such entities as the Family & Parenting Resource Center.

Department of Social Work (two positions)

Assistant Professor.  Macro Practice (Interventions with organizations and communities, and policy practice). M.S.W. and Ph.D./D.S.W. in Social Work or related field are required. All M.S.W. students take Foundation and Advanced micro and macro practice courses. B.A.S.W. students take policy and community practice courses. The position requires expertise in interventions with organization and communities, as well as policy practice. For the M.S.W., an understanding of the integration of macro and micro practice is necessary. In addition, the ability to teach and supervise M.S.W. research is required and an interest in developing on-line/distance learning courses is desirable. This is an opportunity for an ambitious person to play a major role in an M.S.W. program that has been reaffirmed with a completely redesigned curriculum and a new B.A.S.W. program that has just been fully accredited. An ability to conduct research, generate grants and teach course at the M.S.W. and B.A.W.W. is required.

FILLED Assistant Professor.  Micro Practice (Interventions with individuals, families, and groups). M.S.W. and Ph.D./D.S.W. in Social Work or related field are required as well as three years post baccalaureate direct practice experience. A clinical license is preferred. Department of Sociology (two positions)

Professor.  Department Chair Ph.D. in Sociology is required at the time of appointment. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will provide responsible and professional leadership in managing the day-to-day operational needs of the Department, including supervision of support staff, evaluating faculty, fiscal management, and allocating facilities and equipment for teaching, research and service activities. The Chair will represent the Department and maintain positive public relations with on and off-campus entities. The Chair is expected to provide leadership in facilitating long-term planning for professional involvement and development of the faculty and the Department and mentor faculty in effectively meeting their responsibilities in scholarship, teaching and service. The successful candidate will have an established record of professional and scholarly achievement, an active research agenda; possess evidence of successful grant activity, excellence in teaching, and a commitment to service. He/she must be eligible for tenure at the Professor rank commensurate with criteria at California State University, San Bernardino.

Assistant or Associate Professor or Professor. her secondary areas are open but candidates with expertise in immigration, global development, or demography will be given preference. Candidates should have strong quantitative skills, be able to teach the department’s research methods sequence, be available for student advising. Candidates capable of using GIS/Arcview systems in their teaching and research and who apply quantitative research methods in analyzing urban policy issues and those with experience in designing and conducting large scale surveys will be given preference. The successful candidate will have an established record of professional and scholarly achievement, an active research agenda, evidence of successful grant activity, excellence in teaching, and a commitment to service sufficient to qualify for tenure and appointment at either the advanced assistant or beginning associate rank. Ph.D. in Sociology is required at the time of appointment.
